An off duty police officer was assaulted on a train between Carseldine and Bald Hills last night after attempting to stop two people damaging a carriage.
Around 9.10pm the off duty officer observed two people damaging a window and intervened, identifying himself as a police officer.
One of the offenders assaulted the officer who was then tackled to the floor where he was assaulted again.
A second offender bit the officer whilst he was on the floor.
A female passenger attempted to intervene, pulling at one of the offenders.
When the train arrived at Bald Hills station the two offenders ran off.
The off duty officer, a male Acting Sergeant, was taken to Saint Andrews Hospital for treatment of head and hand injuries.
The woman received a wrist injury and was also taken to Saint Andrews Hospital.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
