Traffic and Highway Patrol officers are urging co-operation between cars and trucks on our roads to avoid serious collisions.
About 4pm on Wednesday 7 August 2013, a b-double truck being driven by a 35-year-old man was travelling north on the Berowra exit ramp of the F3, toward the Windy Banks interchange.
As the truck prepared to turn left, a black Honda driven by a 63-year-old man allegedly overtook the truck on the left in an attempt to get past it, causing the car to get crushed between the truck and nearby cement barrier.
No one was injured during the incident. Emergency services attended to assist the driver out of the vehicle. The 63-year-old driver was issued an infringement for overtake to left of vehicle.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Command’s, Superintendent Stuart Smith, said cars and trucks needed to be aware of each other and share the road.
“Trucks and heavy vehicles travelling on our roads have a number of limits when turning or coming to a stop.
“Cars attempting to overtake turning heavy vehicles are not only breaking the law but putting themselves at great risk of a serious crash.
“Heavy vehicles don’t have the ability to stop suddenly and so a car attempting to overtake them or stopping suddenly in front of them are at risk of a collision.
“All vehicles need to share the roads and be aware of other motorists around them,” Superintendent Smith said.
